The Barbarian

History
Barbarians have always been around, though they are not so much a guild as common types of clans. The common thread is really quite simple, warrior races who base their lives on honour and combat. All the barbarian clans discovered to date are consummate artists with weapons, able to draw on deep reserves of strength and endurance. Another common factor is that they are not found in civilized areas but out in the wilds where their skills and strengths harmonise well with nature. Indeed many towns people have associated them with wolves and tundra, even those whose peoples have lived in jungles for hundreds of generations.

What most of the towns people tend to forget is that their forebears were barbarians too and that it is a necessary stage in a people's evolution. What some of them also don't understand is how they can enjoy it and be happy not to become civilised.

Over the centuries there has been quite a bit of friction between the towns people and the barbarians, sometimes to the point where hoards would ransack towns or even cities. At this time there is almost a truce between the differing lifestyles, though how long it can last is anyone's guess.

Attributes
The Barbarians are the hardiest of fighters. They focus purely on the physical arts, eschewing mental skills except where they can enhance their combat skills. So strong is their focus, and their dedication to the arts of combat, they are unable to manage the intricacies of casting magic. Indeed, few barbarians can even read. They can use magical items like potions, wands and of course magical weapons, but they cannot use scrolls at all. To offset this they are truly skilled warriors with supreme endurance. They can bash an opponent and circle him, and they can easily slip into the berserker rage, becoming a terrifying opponent.
